I sat down with Doty, the guy from IamTheDot.com, to discuss their new and unique gaming concept.

QuestionMan: Hi, Doty… I will go straight to the basic question – What’s so new with your gaming concept?
Doty: Hi, QuestionMan. The uniqueness is that IamTheDot.com is the first game to use The Hands Free Gaming Concept – the transitional phase between Human Control and Artificial Intelligence.

QuestionMan: Huh?
Doty: IamTheDot.com is a Real Time Hands Free Game… Let me elaborate… In most of the games today the Main Character is controlled by the player in Real Time and Hands On via a joystick, keyboard or a controller of some sorts…

QuestionMan: Yes, so…?
Doty: That’s why most of the games today require some sort of manual dexterity, which is very, very cool and who doesn't love those types of games? Who hasn't spend endless nights in front of the screen?

We are a bit different and we have taken another approach… In IamTheDot.com the Main Character is also controlled by the player via a keyboard and/or mouse in Real Time, but it is Hands Free or Hands Off!

QuestionMan: Hands Free?
Doty: It means you program the Main Character and then let him go. Once he goes, you have no control over him. If you have “taught him well”, he will make it… if not, he will perish…

QuestionMan: Very philosophical… like A.I.?
Doty: A step in that direction... It’s like a First Person Game... but of The Mind... not of the hands!

QuestionMan: Cool, how does it work?
Doty: Well, there are many levels and types of games that can be designed on the IamTheDot.com Game Engine. I will explain the Classic (basic) Game:
Below is a picture of the Basic Board…

QuestionMan: Very neat, it looks like a Chess Board and a Crossword Puzzle. How does it work?
Doty: In the Basic Version there are 3 Dots: A Red Dot (Player), a Blue Dot (Player) and a Yellow Dot (Prize). The idea is to get to the Prize as quickly as possible.

QuestionMan: So you just move the Dot along?
Doty: Yes, but indirectly... Although the Dot moves in Real Time, you have no control over it at that moment. You tell it what to do and the Dot does it...

QuestionMan: Brilliant… So, you program the Route and the Dot executes the moves?
Doty: Yes, exactly... The Red and Blue Dots have to get to the Yellow Dot (Prize) as quickly as they can. You program the route and then it's Hands Off... Sit back and watch.
Below is the program of the Route of the 2 Dots in the example:

QuestionMan: You are looking for the “fastest” route, not the “shortest”?
Doty: Correct… The Legend below shows that each square along the route has a certain value – if you step on it, it could either slow you down or speed you up.
This is The Legend:

QuestionMan: How do you measure the speed of the movement of the dots?
Doty: The Speed of the game is controlled by “clicks”. By using the clicks, we can have Universal Records and Championships from around the world. This is the Click Counter or, we like to call it, The Clicker:

QuestionMan: So, the speed of getting to the prize is measured by clicks, not by seconds?
Doty: Absolutely correct… All Dots are moving along click - per - click. That's why the key to the speed is the programing of the route. The Game requires the ability to work with the future... To be able to analyze, to forsee and to calculate...

This is the board put together:

QuestionMan: I see a lot of potential for this kind of Game Engine/Concept… What’s the future?
Doty: The Basic Game has 2 parts: Part 1 – The Programing and Part 2 – The Execution. The IamtheDot.com Engine can power games of many different categories: Mazes, Quests, Games of Speed... to name just a few. There are 2 Main ways of Counting the Clicks: Simultaneous (all Player Dots move at the same time) and Consecutive (all Player Dots move one after each other, a click apart). Also there are ways to add variety by deciding as to what happens if 2 or more Players land on the same square.

War Games could also be played by controlling teams of dots, each team let's say gets 3 moves, then the other team gets 3 moves…etc. Or, each team could get a certain amount of clicks per each play and so they move up a field... Different people around the world could be different dots on the same team.

Future Versions of IamTheDot.com will allow the Player to program an "if" behavior in the Dots. Meaning that as the Dot is moving along, "if" something happens, the Dot will react in a certain pre-determined way... Don't forget all the movements of the Dots are Hands Off

QuestionMan: The really cool thing I see is that IamTheDot.com is a game that develops basic programming skills, strategies and all happens in Real Time and Hands Free… So amazing!
Doty: Thank you, we are happy to show that Games can develop the Mind also and don’t have to contain violence to be interesting. Our research shows that all age groups are interested in the Game from various strata of society. Parents love the idea that their kids will start using their brains a bit more.

QuestionMan: Thank you, Doty, for your time and your explanations. It’s very simple. It’s an awesome concept. I also love the name IamTheDot.com, it kinda rolls off your toungue
Doty: I am the dot dot com thanks you…

QuestionMan: Any closing thoughts, Doty?

Doty: It's better to be a dot than a square...
